Wetland Ecology Field Research Technician II

The Wetlands and Coastal Center at Duke University in the Nicholas School of the environment invites applications for a position in wetland  ecology at the field technician II level. Applicants should have a master’s degree in ecology, environmental science, wetland ecology or soil science. This a full-time position starting in January 2025. Later starting dates will be considered until the position is filled. The initial appointment is for a year with up to 5 years available on a new grant focused on carbon sequestration and GHG releases in pocosin peatlands in North Carolina. The restoration research project concerns the effects of water level on carbon storage and GHG releases. The position will be responsible for on -site experimental data field collections  in coastal NC where a 14,000 acre carbon farm is being developed. Field experience collecting peat soils and plants, measuring water levels with automated systems and downloading data from automated weather and GHG systems is required. Some lab work concerning sample preparations will be required. The position is in Durham, NC, but travel to field sites mainly in North Carolina is required.  Opportunities exist for training on both field and lab instrumentation as well as developing skills related to carbon research and climate change.
