Wetland Delineator / Field Biologist

Martin & Nicholson Environmental Consultants (M&N) is seeking a qualified Wetland Field Lead to join our Park City, Utah-based company. M&N is a small business that provides a comprehensive suite of natural resource services to renewable energy, land restoration, transportation, and land development clients, of which delineations, jurisdictional determinations, and permitting are critical components. This job will provide the recipient with the opportunity to conduct aquatic resource delineations, improve their technical report writing, master the use of field equipment, and have fun with a great team of people! In addition, we support our employees’ professional development through paid trainings and certifications.

This individual must be dependable and express an eagerness to learn interdisciplinary skills necessary in environmental consulting. S/he will use critical thinking skills to help solve problems and work as part of a team. Responsibilities include conducting field surveys, completing data entry, and writing reports. The position requires the ability to work long hours in potentially inclement weather in rough terrain. The employee may sometimes be out of town for up to a week at a time. Work would likely start in May of 2025.

Job description

  • Serve as a field lead performing aquatic resource delineations and assessments.
  • Assist crew leaders with natural resources field work including vegetation and rare plant surveys, avian and wildlife surveys, and wildlife habitat       assessments
  • Communicate respectfully and effectively with clients, agency personnel, and coworkers
  • Accurately gather and record data in ArcGIS Field Maps and on datasheets
  • Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other technologies to navigate and determine exact locations of project areas,               aquatic resource data, habitat types, and associated landforms
  • Assist project managers in data management, interpretation, and report preparation as needed
  • Adhere to company safety procedures and standards of scientific and professional ethics

Experience and qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science (wetland science, aquatic ecology, plant ecology, soil science, botany, biology, etc.)
  • Aquatic Resource Delineation Training
  • Minimum of one season of field work conducting aquatic resource delineations and one or more season conducting:

Vegetation community and/or weed surveys

Federally listed and sensitive plant surveys

Soil sampling

Avian or other wildlife species surveys

  • Ability to drive a 4-wheel drive vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads.
  • A clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds while surveying up to 10 miles/day sometimes in inclement weather and in          rough terrain.
  • Current first aid and CPR training or wilderness first aid required.
