SWS Mid-Atlantic Chapter NYC Field Trip

Description
Please join other members of SWS for an educational guided walking tour of wetland restoration sites in the historic Castle Hill and Soundview neighborhoods of the Bronx on Sunday, December 8th provided by Ellen Hartig, Project Manager and Senior Wetland Scientist at NYC Parks. The event will consist of an approximately 2-hour tour of multiple sites in various states of restoration, followed by a brief Q&A session indoors at the Castle Hill YMCA. A yet to be determined location will be established for interested parties to go to for post-tour lunch, libations, and networking.
Schedule is Eastern Time and subject to change
9:30-10:00am: Stop 1: Introduction to marsh restoration. Attendees are to meet inside the southernmost entrance to Soundview Park at Leland Avenue and O’Brien Avenue at 9:30 am.
10:00–10:30am: Stop 2: Walk through Soundview restoration site (with waterproof boots).
10:30–10:50am: Stop 3: Short tour at nearby unnamed future park and restoration site where Underhill Ave ends and intersects with U Street.
10:50-11:30am: Stop 4: (TBD) Dependent on timing and permissions: Drive to end of Husson Ave (near intersection with Gildersleeve Ave) for restoration not yet open.
11:30am-12:00pm: Stop 5: Tour from steps at Barrett and Howe Avenue for Castle Hill Park. Walk around to Hart Street and end at 12:30 at the YMCA.
12:30-1:00pm: Stop 6: Talk at YMCA (walking distance from Stop 5--parking is limited at the Y—address is 2 Castle Hill Ave, Bronx, NY 10473).
1:00pm-onward: Stop 7: Optional Lunch at a TBD location.
Registration is free. Lunch is at the registrant's expense.
