SWS August 2025 Webinar: Coastal 101

Thursday, August 21, 2025 (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM) (CDT)

Description

In addition to registering here, you must register via the Zoom link that appears on screen when you "hit" SUBMIT.

Coastal 101 is the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana’s core introductory program, offering a clear overview of the forces driving land loss and the solutions underway. This webinar will outline the natural and human-driven processes that have shaped our wetlands, explain how changes to the Mississippi River’s sediment flow have accelerated erosion, and review the ecological, social, and economic consequences.

Louisiana’s coast is one of the most productive landscapes in the world and one of the most threatened. Every 100 minutes, a football field of land is lost to open water. This loss impacts wetlands, fisheries, communities, and economies.

Attendees will learn about major restoration strategies in Louisiana, including sediment diversions, marsh creation, barrier island restoration, and living shorelines. We will also share how CRCL’s restoration programs, such as native planting events and the oyster shell recycling program, connect the public to restoration work.

Designed for anyone interested in learning about Louisiana’s coast, CRCL's Coastal 101 delivers a concise, introduction to our region’s greatest environmental challenge and the projects working to address it. Participants will leave with a better understanding of land change, restoration priorities, and opportunities to contribute to the future of this vital landscape.

This webinar will be led by Isabella Donnell

Isabella grew up in Daphne, Alabama and moved to New Orleans to attend college in 2015. In 2020, Isabella received her master’s degree in ecology and evolutionary biology from Tulane University. Her studies focused on plant ecology and marsh ecosystems. She began working at CRCL in 2020 and over the past five years has worked in operations and outreach with the organization.
