May 2024 Webinar - Wetlands of Nebraska Outreach and Education Project: Accomplishments and Transferability

Thursday, May 16, 2024 (1:00 PM - 2:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

Monthly webinars are offered as a benefit of membership. Once each quarter, in March, July, September, and December, the monthly SWS webinar is open for non-members to attend (and at no cost), as well.

The main objective of the Wetlands of Nebraska Outreach and Education project was to produce and distribute a series of integrated outreach and education products to increase awareness of the importance of wetlands in Nebraska and an understanding of the need for wetland conservation. The products included: five feature films, five ESRI StoryMaps, a Guide to Nebraska’s Wetlands, a booklet for kids, and two educational videos and lesson plans for teachers.

This project was led by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and was funded primarily by a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection. Partners helping with grant implementation included: Platte Basin Timelapse (PBT) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the Nebraska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, and Ducks Unlimited.

The webinar will review the purpose of the project and the products produced, including showing some film clips. The methods used will be discussed including how they could be applied in other areas to benefit wetland conservation.

The products are available at www.NebraskaWetlands.com.
