Debbie Muir the Specialist Programme Manager for DFFE and holds a MSc in Botany and Postgraduate Diploma in pesticide Risk Management. She also holds an international accreditation from the UN for Environmental law and Conventions as is the focal point for SA for FAO's Forestry Invasive Species Network Africa (FISNA). She was part of the International Forestry Stewardship council (FSC's) Technical Working Group that developed the Pesticide Policy and the International Generic Indicators (IGI's). She developed the updated Pesticide Policy for DFFE, including the extrapolation factors for aquatic risk indicators and the ESRA. She is currently finalizing the biomonitoring protocols and the PPE matrix using the Global Harmonisation of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) in line with WHO guidelines and ILO guidelines. She is also a member of SADC Southern African Pesticide Regulators (SAPReF) as the technical expert on the Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHP's) committee currently finalising a strategy for SADC on HHP identification and phase out. She is also a member of the SADC biopesticides committee currently working of harmonization guidelines for registration of biopesticides in SADC countries.
