
Wetland Scientist/Lead Delineator

Thrasher is looking for a Wetland Scientist/Lead Delineator to join our Environmental Division in the Bridgeport WV office. As a member of the team, you’ll work on a variety of project types, making each day different and exciting. With a healthy mix of field and office work, our team is constantly evolving, adding new services, gaining certifications, and boasting continuous professional development.
Roles and Responsibilities of the Wetland Scientist include, but are not limited to:
- Lead/ conduct wetland delineations
- Conduct SWVM Assessments in West Virginia and ORAM Assessments in Ohio
- Conduct additional environmental/biological field assessments such as, but not limited to, macroinvertebrates sampling
- Collect and classify environmental samples
- Determine permitting requirements and applicability for various local, state, and federal agencies.
- Highly motivated with a client-oriented focus.
- Ability to work independently, and to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
- Excellent written and oral interpersonal communication skills.
- Assist project managers in report writing and permitting
- Prepare commonly used documents using a standard template
- Ability to work in a team environment with inter-disciplinary professionals.
- Analytical skills, and prior experience with research techniques, local/regional ecology and habitats, and applicable species required.
- Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Recognize legal implications of work provided through the environmental division
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Perform initial self-edits on all documents and permits prior to technical/SME review
- Track and assess time billed to projects in comparison to set budgets and communicate issues or concerns with project managers
Qualifications must include:
- An AS degree or higher in environmental science, biology, geology, or related field
- 3+ years’ experience as a wetland delineator
- 40-hour wetland training is required (i.e., Richard Chinn, Swamp School, etc.)
- Possess knowledge and understanding of industry regulations
- Proven ability to interface with new and existing clients
- ArcGIS and/or geospatial data collection equipment experience is preferred
