University of Alabama - MS or PhD Graduate Student Opening in Biogeochemistry
University of Alabama: There is an opportunity for a student seeking an MS or PhD in the Biogeochemistry Lab (http://mortazavilab.ua.edu/) as early as Fall 2021. The successful applicants will work on collaborative projects to examine spatial and temporal patterns in nitrogen cycling and controls on trace gas fluxes in marshes. Alabama is an ecologically remarkable state, a hotspot of aquatic biodiversity and home to the Mobile-Tensaw Delta ("America's Amazon") and Mobile Bay is the fourth largest estuary in the United States providing extensive opportunities for biogeochemical research. Tuscaloosa is a thriving college town, centrally located to major southern cities, state and national parks, and the Gulf of Mexico.
The ideal candidate would have a BS in chemistry, biology, marine science, or a related field, and previous research experience in biogeochemistry. The candidate will have considerable latitude in developing their research program, if desired. Most entering M.S. and Ph.D. students are supported by graduate teaching or research assistantships, for which they receive a 12-month stipend, full tuition waiver and single person health insurance allowance.
