Biodiversity Research Institute (BRI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to assess emerging threats to wildlife and ecosystems through collaborative research, and to use scientific findings to advance environmental awareness and inform decision makers.

BRI’s Environmental Consulting Group is a commercial consulting group dedicated to environmentally sound project development. This group works primarily on renewable solar, wind, and energy transmission projects and is at the forefront of the industry in New England.

Seeking Senior Program Manager

Biodiversity Research Institute (BRI) is seeking to hire a Senior Program Manager to help lead the Environmental Consulting Group in our downtown Portland, Maine office.

The successful candidate will have an integral leadership role within the BRI Environmental Consulting Group and be responsible to provide a range of consulting services to a diverse set of clients. The qualified candidate must be able to develop the capacity to lead large projects, develop and maintain relationships with clients and colleagues. Successful candidate must be a hands-on problem solver willing to work through issues as they arise with colleagues, clients, regulators, and with projects. Candidate must be proficient across the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.) and with the use of Adobe.  This position may also work collaboratively with BRI’s other offices on cross disciplinary projects.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrate the capacity to develop skills necessary to lead a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong experience in the preparation of project plans, management of work in progress, cost control, schedule, management of the coordination of the project engineering and technical support staff and management of overall project scope, including negotiation of scope changes with our clients
  • Previous experience and demonstrated team leadership on complex, multidisciplinary projects
  • 10 years in a business/consulting environment in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the energy industry; knowledge of industry business drivers and transformation drivers and impacts
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the energy industry; knowledge of industry business drivers and transformation drivers and impacts
  • Previous experience with local, state, and federal permitting in Maine and across New England
  • Outstanding management and organizational skills are a must for this position
  • Demonstrate broad technical knowledge and experience in multiple areas of specialization and/or business operations management
  • Problem solving mentality and a strong ability to work independently and manager others
  • Exhibit leadership skills and possess capabilities to be an effective negotiator
  • Demonstrated teambuilding and effective communication/coordination with others
  • Capable of assisting with the development of technical reports, presentations, cost-estimates, and project proposals.

Work Schedule and Location

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week salaried position and is based at BRI’s downtown Portland, Maine office.

Compensation

Salary commensurate with experience. BRI offers a fully paid employee health insurance premium, plus optional dependent coverage, dental, STD, LTD and life insurance, 401k with match, and generous paid PTO and holidays. Costs associated with work travel are reimbursed.
