Our Natural Resources & Impact Assessment Group provides environmental impact documentation and permitting services for a broad range of interesting clients and projects, working across multiple market sectors and geographies!
GHD has an exciting opportunity in Northern California or Southern California for a Sr. Botanist. Our office affiliations include San Diego, Irvine, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Concord, Sacramento, Santa Rosa, Roseville, and Eureka. The Botanist position will involve working with a team of natural resources scientists, environmental planners, engineers, and others to achieve project goals. GHD’s US West Region Natural Resources and Impact Assessment (NR&IA) Group supports projects throughout California. Work will largely include a variety of capital improvement projects in the Western US, opportunities for both national and international projects, and contributions to proposals and business development.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Conduct botany-related field work, including rare plant surveys, restoration and mitigation monitoring, habitat characterization and Sensitive Natural Community mapping, and vegetation portions of wetland delineations
Conduct environmental field reviews following federal, state, and local agency guidelines
Preparation of resource agency permit applications with the U.S. Army Corps, Regional Water Quality Control Board, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, California Coastal Commission, and other agencies
Contribute to botanical database searches and scoping, botanical reports, wetland delineation reports, and biology chapters in CEQA and NEPA documents
Contribute to mitigation monitoring plans and monitoring reports
Maintain positive company relations with existing clients. Collaborate with others in developing and expanding our business to new clients and geographical areas. Contribute to proposals for projects of various size and complexity
BS in Botany, Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences, Biology, or another related field. MS is a plus
Minimum 5-8 years' experience providing most or all crucial duties and responsibilities noted above
Strong comprehension of plant species-level and community-level identification; working familiarity with relevant plant and habitat reference materials; experience with wetland delineation and functional assessment knowledge
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Statistical knowledge and ability to apply such knowledge in practical solutions, particularly in restoration monitoring data analysis
Comfortable working in a variety of locations, ranging from rugged/remote backcountry to urban. Ability to travel
