Harris Environmental Group, Inc. is a small environmental consulting business seeking a Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) & Project Manager PM) to lead natural resources projects in the Puget Sound region and the Pacific Northwest. The preferred candidate must reside in the Puget Sound Region (e.g. Tacoma, Olympia, Seattle), or the Portland Metro Area and have an advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) and wetland science experience in the Pacific Northwest. The position will oversee project development, direction, coordination and quality control for natural resource management projects while expanding our environmental consulting team in the Pacific Northwest Region.

The ideal candidate will have expertise and strong project history working in one or more of the following areas:

  • Certified Professional Wetland Scientist by the Society of Wetland Scientists.
  • Environmental compliance and consulting.
  • Familiarity with Pacific Northwest flora and fauna.
  • Wetland and stream delineations.
  • Habitat restoration.
  • Stormwater management.


  • Managing and directing multiple projects (including fieldwork and travel).
  • Training and directing field staff.
  • Project development (work scopes, proposals and costs).
  • Performing due diligence and permitting for natural resource projects which may include writing NEPA documents, including EAs or EISs, mitigation plans, HCPs, and other documents required under the Endangered Species Act and other environmental rules, regulations, and associated permitting.
  • Leading studies of wetlands, fisheries, marine or terrestrial environments, and eelgrass/macroalgae.
  • Directing compliance and/or mitigation projects for state, federal, regional and commercial clients.
  • Attending networking events to promote the company in the industry.

  • M.S or Ph.D degree in applicable field (wetland science, biology, natural resources management, environmental science/policy, or closely related discipline).
  • Minimum of four years supervisory and fieldwork experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with public and/or commercial clients, and private stakeholders.
  • Experienced with species and habitats local to the Pacific Northwest Region.
  • Possession or ability to obtain training/certifications relevant to contract services (e.g., PWS, WSPCP, GIS, CESCL or CPESC).
  • Experience with federal and state-listed threatened or endangered species, NEPA and/or SEPA, CWA, MMPA, and other relevant compliance processes.
  • Experience with writing and editing environmental permitting and technical reports related to wetlands, streams. Preference given for additional experience with fisheries, wildlife, coastal shoreline, or stormwater management.
  • Ability to train, coordinate, and oversee personnel.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, oral presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as oversee projects of varying sizes.
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills.

Location & Hours

Pacific Northwest (e.g. Puget Sound Region such as Tacoma, Olympia, Seattle; Portland Metro Area such as Portland, Vancouver, Hillsboro).

Harris Environmental Group. Inc offers remote work (Tacoma, WA) or remote/hybrid (Portland, OR) with a generous flexible schedule for staff members. To ensure opportunities for collaboration and teamwork, employees are generally expected to work the majority of their hours from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Staff schedules vary slightly based on job description, work type, and workload.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this full-time exempt position will be commensurate with experience and market rates, roughly ranging from $80,000 to $102,000. This position is eligible for full company benefits including medical/dental/vision/life/disability insurance, 3% match to employee pension plan (IRA), and paid holidays.
