Essential Job Duties

The Natural Resource Specialist will work out of our Fridley shop. Primary duties include but are not limited to:

  • Completing natural resources, water resources, and environmental projects.
  • Complete projects within scope and budget
  • Project Management
  • Supervisory Role
  • Leadership

Education and Experience Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in natural resources, water resources, biology, ecology, botany, conservation biology, or related field.
  • At minimum 5 years experience in environmental engineering, natural resources, ecology, hydrology, geology, and/or botany. Candidates' resume should list extensively their experience and upon request provide several references.
  • Understanding of the ecology of Minnesota's natural and water resources.
  • Field experience with plant species characteristic of MN or the upper Midwest.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree or currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in biology, ecology, botany, conservation biology, geography or related field.
  • At least two seasons of professional experience doing field assessments of Minnesota native plant communities or floristic surveys of native vegetation.
  • Experience working with or for the MN DNR
  • Superior writing, communication, and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.) with attention to detail.
  • Experience using submeter GPS/GNSS devices (e.g., Trimble R1, Trimble R2, Juniper Geode) to collect data.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro.

This position requires:

  • Obtain 40-Hour Hazwoper/8-Hour Refresher certification within 30 days from hire date, Training Provided.
  • possess a valid driver’s license, and have an acceptable driving record and within 3 months of the start of employment obtain a Class A license for combination vehicles. Training Provided.
  • passing a pre-employment Alcohol and Drug Test and random testing throughout employment
  • obtaining a DOT Medical Card within 15 days of hire date
  • OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required prior to job placement

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position is a supervisory role where they are responsible for staff and the project.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Climb ladders or steps and traverse difficult and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to carry up to 50 pounds and work in conditions that may feature rough terrain
  • Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time: stand, sit, walk, crawl, carry, bend, reach
  • Normal vision (with or without corrective lenses) is required for this position.
  • Applicants must be able to work in out-of-office locations and in natural settings.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time exempt position. Normal days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m but the workday can extend into the evening or weekend.

Travel: This position requires travel to various client locations. Travel typically involves day trips within the state or neighboring states, resulting in longer workdays; and may include extended and/or further travel, resulting in multiple days and overnights.
