Ecological Engineer (P.E.)

MAD Scientist Associates (MAD) is seeking a motivated, caring, team-oriented full-time Ecological Engineer who wants to Make A Difference for our growing ecological restoration practice. Our Ecological Engineer will assist with site analysis and design, develop plan drawings and bid sets, and complete basic modeling and analysis tasks for wetland and stream restoration projects. As our Ecological Engineer, you will work closely with our multi-disciplinary ecological restoration staff (Professional Wetland Scientists, Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioners, Ecologists, Biologists, Botanists, and Landscape Architect/Graphic Designer) to get our team-developed site concepts into high quality formal plans. Our ideal candidate will have experience with wetland and/or stream restoration (natural channel) design, water budgets and fluvial processes/stream hydraulics, stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs), and related experience in cost estimating, bidding, and construction oversight.

Candidate should:

  • Be familiar with AutoCAD, HydroCAD and GIS
  • Be able to contribute to the inter-disciplinary planning process for ecological restoration projects and capture the details of these restoration plans in detailed drawings and bid sets
  • Be comfortable with field work and site analysis and working on a multi-disciplinary team to develop ecological restoration plans that are optimized for the site and local ecology
  • Have the confidence to stamp restoration plans developed through our interdisciplinary planning process under your engineering oversight
  • Be familiar with grading plans, cut and fill calculations, and wetland and stream hydrology
  • Be willing to learn about regulatory compliance and assist with permitting-related tasks
  • Have experience with best management practices and development of stormwater pollution prevention plans
  • Be self-motivated, positive, and team-oriented
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and a keen focus on details
  • Demonstrate time management and follow-through skills
  • Be willing to travel on occasion
  • Be flexible regarding work assignments and willing to assist where needed (we’re a small company, and our staff must “wear many hats”)

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS or MS in environmental, ecological, civil or related engineering discipline
  • P.E. license
  • 3 years (minimum) full-time experience (can include years prior to earning P.E. status)
  • Valid driver’s license
