Conservation Fellow

Conservation Fellows work under Montana Conservation Corps (MCC) staff and host site supervisors to complete projects.  These positions place AmeriCorps members elbow to elbow with natural resource professionals in the field.  Members serve with a host site organization gaining valuable hands-on training and experience.  Members get personalized attention and engage with our custom curriculum to enhance their experience.  The specific tasks of each position will vary by host site. Work includes natural resource projects and MCC program elements. This position will need to develop positive working relationships with host site supervisors and members of the community.



Term Dates: 5/18/22 – 9/30/22

Location: Varies based on host site placement

Living Allowance: $635 bi-weekly before taxes

AmeriCorps Education Award: $2,417 upon successful completion of the program

Member Assistance Program: Free 24/7 access to confidential mental health counseling, medical advocacy, financial assistance, life coaching and more

Public Lands Service Corps Hiring Preference: Members serving with federal land management agencies may be eligible to receive hiring preference for future federal job placement

Qualifications:

  • High school degree, GED, or willing to obtain
  • Ages 17-30, up to 35 for military veterans
  • US Citizen, National, or Legal Permanent Resident
  • Available for the entire term of service
  • Commitment to completing term
  • Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check
  • Strong service ethic
  • Desire to serve the community and the environment
  • Willing to work long hours in all weather conditions
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Ability to provide personal transportation to worksites, housing, and trainings


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in natural resource, agriculture, education or conservation related field
  • Experience with conservation or natural resource groups.
  • Previous experience teaching or managing volunteers
  • Ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Open to new environments, different perspectives and rural communities.
