South Central Chapter Fall Meeting

Full Day Field Trip: Thursday, October 12 (9am - 4pm)

This event is capped at 15 participants. Field Trip Attendees will meet at the Cave City Convention Center. More details will be available following registration.

Field Trip Summary: The field trip will start with a site visit to Lock and Dam #6 on the Green River, just downstream of Mammoth Cave National Park. The structure was removed several years ago which began when the dam started to fail. Removal is considered a river restoration project, but there are many impacts including improving fisheries, changing cave hydrology and changing the recreational use of groups such as kayakers. USFWS will lead and explain the lock and dam removal project.

Later, we’ll be led on a special educational tour of the Mammoth Cave system. For several hours we’ll enter and explore a less visited part of the system. Dr. Chris Groves, cave hydrologist from the University of Western KY will help lead this tour with Park staff and explain the nuances of cave hydrology. This trip is considered a moderate effort walking tour.

SWS South Central Chapter Meeting: Friday, October 13 (8:30am - 4:30pm)

Meeting attendees will meet at the Cave City Convention Center. More details will be available following registration. Join us for a day of oral presentations, poster presentations, and networking with fellow SWS South Central Chapter members! Two coffee breaks and catered lunch will be provided.
